Renting a Motorcycle in Hong Kong as a Tourist
Tourists can rent a motorcycle or scooter in Hong Kong on an overseas, Taiwan or Mainland motorcycle licence, provided they meet the age and licence-years rules. Who can rent a motorcycle in Hong Kong
- Riders aged 30 or over who have held a motorcycle driving licence for 5 years or more (applies to every renter).
- Under Section 37 of the Road Traffic (Driving Licences) Regulations (Cap. 374B), visitors who have been in Hong Kong for less than 12 months may ride on a valid driving licence issued outside Hong Kong or an International Driving Permit (IDP).
- Only the named renter may ride the bike, and it may only be used on legal public roads within Hong Kong.
Documents by where you are from
Visitors from Taiwan
- ▸What Taiwan calls 機車 or 重機 is simply a motorcycle in Hong Kong; every bike in our fleet is 300 cc or above.
- ▸Visitors from Taiwan must hold a Taiwan motorcycle licence for 5 years or more together with an International Driving Permit (IDP), and be aged 30 or over.
- ▸Bring your passport and entry label at pickup.
Visitors from Mainland China
- ▸Valid Exit-Entry Permit for Travelling to and from Hong Kong and Macau with a tourist endorsement, plus the entry label.
- ▸Chinese motorcycle driving licence (Class D or E) held for 5 years or more.
- ▸Aged 30 or over, with proof of current address.

Prices, deposit & insurance
- Daily rental from HK$490 on day one and from HK$340 per day from day two, with 14-day and monthly rates.
- Security deposit HK$10,000–18,000 depending on the bike, held as a credit-card pre-authorization at pickup and released automatically within 30 working days after return if no charges apply.
- Add Premium Go CDW (HK$450 for the first day, HK$225 per further day) and the deposit is reduced to HK$5,000, with the repair excess also lowered to HK$5,000.
- Every rental includes basic third-party insurance (excess HKD 30,000 per accident), unlimited mileage within Hong Kong and a full tank at handover.

Hong Kong road essentials
- ▸Traffic keeps LEFT and bikes are right-hand drive (as in the UK and Japan); roundabouts run clockwise.
- ▸Urban speed limit 50 km/h; trunk roads and expressways 70 / 80 km/h.
- ▸No turn on red in any direction unless a dedicated green arrow is lit.
- ▸Cross-harbour tunnels charge motorcycles 40% of the car toll via HKeToll auto-billing.
- ▸South Lantau beyond Shek Mun Kap Road is closed to motorcycles (Tian Tan Buddha, Tai O and Ngong Ping are off-limits).
- ▸Both rider and pillion must wear a fastened helmet.
Visitor FAQ
Do I need an International Driving Permit (IDP)?
If your motorcycle licence is not in English (for example a Taiwan, Japanese or Korean licence) you need an International Driving Permit (IDP) with it; an English-language licence does not need one. Mainland visitors need a Chinese motorcycle licence (Class D or E). Every licence must have been held for 5 years or more.
Can I carry a pillion passenger?
Yes. A pillion passenger is allowed; both rider and passenger must wear a fastened helmet. Only the named renter may ride the bike.
Can I ride the bike outside Hong Kong (Macau or Mainland China)?
No. Under Clause 1.1 of the rental terms, rental vehicles may only be used on legal public roads within Hong Kong and may not leave Hong Kong.
What happens in a typhoon or rainstorm?
Under a Black rainstorm warning or Typhoon Signal No. 8 or above (in force or expected), the shop suspends operations and pickup / return is rescheduled. Under Amber / Red rainstorm warnings or Typhoon Signal No. 1 / 3, rentals are handled case by case in line with government advice. For weather-related delays, your booking value is carried over to the next rental (not refunded) with no time limit.
Can I pick up or return the bike at my hotel?
Yes, subject to daily staffing availability. An additional fixed service fee applies; please contact our team before booking for details.
